When fitting tyres on BMW 330 and 5 series, Audi all wheel drive and most models of Jaguars it is very important to comply with the manufacturer's directive that all the tyres on the vehicle should be of the same brand and tread pattern. The reason for this is that, because manufacturing tollerences of up to 2% exist in the size specification of tyres, different brands and tread patterns of tyres will have slighgtly different circumference lengths for the same sized tyre. In other words a Dunlop 205/55/16W will probably be a slightly different size to a 205/55/16W Bridgestone.
The electronic management systems in these cars will detect the resulting difference in wheel rotation speed and adjust the handling set-up of the car to compensate. This usually results in unsatisfactory handling.
